Shirley Polk, of 57xx DeGiverville, hosts the Central West End Community Picnic each year at Forest Park.

This event is about 2 decades old and never fails to entertain area youngsters.

This year the picnic took place on August 19 at Picnic Area #8. Polk, assisted by her husband Al, and friends provides good food and prizes to attendees. For several years, the SDCC has been a sponsor of the picnic. Shown here is Nicholas Simmons, of 58xx DeGiverville, who won the top prize, a ten-speed bike. Other children received school supplies-pencils, erasers, notebooks, and backpacks.

The temperature soared that August day and so did the spirits of all who participated.
