Important Reminders — Trash And Your Alley

June 2001

Historical Summer 2001 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

By City ordinance, the property owner is responsible for maintaining the alleys. That means that you are responsible for cutting weeds on the alley side of your fence as well as inside your yard. That means that even when you did NOT put trash in the alley, you are responsible for helping to clean it up. That means you need to learn what rules apply regarding bulk trash pick-up (it only happens on the first FULL week of the month) and how to use your yard-waste-only dumpsters.

Please LEARN and FOLLOW the rules.

When you see someone breaking these rules, talk to them if you feel comfortable doing so.

They may simply NOT KNOW any better. Or contact the SDCC office at 862-5122 and we will send you a copy of trash handling guidelines.
