I wrote (with thanks to Council members and staff for their editing assistance) the letter to Chancellor Wrighton of Washington University, requesting on behalf of the Council’s unanimous motion on May 8, that they discontinue the use of the Right Of First Refusal agreements in the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood.
It was mailed on May 19. Chancellor Wrighton promptly replied on May 23, stating that they will consider our request.2. Greg Freeman, myself, Lana Stein, Alderman Krewson, representatives of the Central West End Association, and others, attended an information presentation on Tuesday, May 30, at Crossroads School by Jack Davis of Futura Properties regarding proposed new construction of a building on DeBaliviere Avenue (where the Shell station was located, just north of Talayna’s).
It will house GAMBRO, the operator of a dialysis clinic currently located in rented space in the strip shopping center. GAMBRO will lease the building from Futura.
It will not only house GAMBRO’s clinic, but they will consolidate administrative and training functions, currently at other locations in the metropolitan area in that building, bringing some additional jobs into the city. Mr. Davis will present the drawings, details, and answer questions at the Council’s meeting Monday evening.
They will ask our support for their project (an alley parallel to and east of DeBaliviere will need to be relocated).3.
On Saturday morning, June 10, after President Tim Schoemehl opened the meeting and set the context, Paul Hohmann and I presented information on Washington University’s property ownership in Skinker-DeBaliviere to a specially called meeting of the Rosedale Neighbors Association at the St. Roch Church hall.
There were close to 70 attendees, including Alderman Krewson, and Suzanne Goodman of Washington U. Steve Givens, assistant to the chancellor, then presented information re Washington University’s plans for construction and other topics including the Right of First Refusal, the Arthur Building, etc.. Steve Givens then took questions and heard comments for the duration of the meeting.
It was a very constructive meeting, but I will not attempt here to summarize all the good questions and comments which were heard. Tim Schoemehl, myself and other Rosedale representatives will report on details of the meeting, and the three motions which were passed at the end, at the Council meeting. See you Monday evening. Daniel Schesch President, Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council
