Although the concept of a pedestrian path to the new passive space at Forest Park was not included in the final plan adopted by the Community Development Commission, the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood has been offered an alternative. At present, there is a buffer zone between Forest Park Parkway and Grand Drive where people can walk, sit on benches and enjoy being in a park. Under the adopted plan, Grand Drive will be eliminated, replaced by three holes of golf. Originally, it was intended that the golf course extend up to where the jogging/biking path now is.
However, new Parks Director Dan McGuire assured the Commission and neighbors present that he would do all that he could to see that some sort of buffer that the neighbors could utilize remained.
He also told neighborhood residents that he would see that a group selected by the SDCC could preview the plans prior to their being made public.
For those interested in reviewing the plans, please call the SDCC at 862-5122.
