The Skinker DeBaliviere community has a long history of service and volunteerism. Members of the SDCC Social Services Committee are anxious to continue that experience of service and concern. Members of the committee have decided that many of our residents are getting older and finding it more difficult each year to take on the challenge of snow. Members of the committee have decided to put their shovels where their mouths are and are volunteering to shovel snow for seniors this winter. Members of the committee, Jane Geller, Mary Schmit, Shirley Polk, Bob Mahon and myself, are asking others to join them in the task of making sure our seniors have clean walks, stairways, and cars after a snow.
The committee challenges others to assist them in this project and they especially challenge teenagers and college students to get in the Skinker DeBaliviere spirit. What an opportunity to meet your neighbors and perform a valuable service! Many volunteers are needed by the committee for the following: MANY happy shovelers.
Call Laure at the SDCC at 862-5122 and put your name on the list if you are available to shovel. We’ll call you after a snow to let you know where and when the brigade will meet or you can assign yourself to a friend and neighbor.
If you can make it when we call that’s great.
If you’re not available for that snow, maybe you can make it for the next one.
A FEW happy shoveler feeders.
For those who want to help, but can’t/don’t want to shovel, you can be available to open your house for an “after shovel” cup of coffee or hot chocolate. ONE or TWO happy snow callers to alert the happy shovelers and happy shovel feeders that a shovel is on.
Call the Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council office to volunteer.
The weather outside may become “frightful” but we can add a bit of safety and good cheer for our senior or disabled neighbors. Teenagers and college students get involved in your neighborhood.
Call Laure at 862-5122.
