Work On The Tunnel Has Begun

June 1997

Historical June 1997 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Construction recently began on the Upper River Des Peres-SkinkerMcCausland tunnel.

This new tunnel will intercept sanitary sewage from the University City area near Vernon and Pennsylvania and carry these flows southward four miles under Skinker, Forest Park, and McCausland.

There they will enter the foulwater interceptor sewer just south of Arsenal.

The tunnel will vary in depth between 40 and 170 feet below the surface.

There will be no work on the tunnel on Skinker in our neighborhood.

However, there will be work just north of Delmar and at two sites in Forest Park adjacent to Skinker.
