The Night Out That Was

It rained hard twice on Tuesday, August 2.

The second rainfall ended just after 6:00pm. Many were worried that the 3rd Annual Neighborhood National Night Out Party would be rained out. But, alas, as the last rain drops were drying on the many festive balloons placed at Four Corners, the people came. And, the rain did not return. About 200 neighbors participated, sampling hot dogs, chips, and beverages and topping it off with ice cream supplied by the 5900 McPherson block unit.

The band MoJo Syndrome entertained with its special blend of blues.

The St. Louis Fire Department sent a truck that youngsters could explore. People met or renewed acquaintances, spoke with elected officials, and enjoyed the music and food. At 7:45pm, Mayor Freeman Bosley Jr. stopped by to check out our party.

He told the gathering that this represented how a neighborhood was supposed to be.

He also spoke with many of the children present.

It was a special party and was covered in the Post and on Channel 5. Many thanks to the Rosedale Neighbors who planned and staffed this event and to SDCC Director Laure Porterfield and aide Laura Kozeny.
