The second regular session of the 87th General Assembly convened on Wednesday, January 5.
It promises to be another exciting and productive session and I want to share a few of the issues I’ll be working on in the coming weeks.
I am sponsoring or co-sponsoring legislation to fund mass transit (statewide, regionally or locally), to address crime prevention with a Youth Opportunities and Violence Prevention Act, to improve the juvenile justice system and to give the City of St. Louis authority to enact regulations stricter than the state for firearms and billboards.
I also support local control of the St. Louis Police department and plan to file a bill which will repeal all or part of the state’s current authority.
I am honored to have been appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Causes and Prevention of Urban Violence and the Commission on Management and Productivity in government.
I will be working with these two groups throughout the session. Your questions or comments are welcomed. Contact me at home: 6026 Waterman, 63112, 721-3083, or, in Jefferson City: House Post Office, State Capitol, 65101-6806, 751-1400.
