A donation of almost 100,000 pennies. collected by Word of Life Lutheran School for Forest Park Forever resulted in an Eagle Scout project for Talmage Newton IV, known as Newt, of 62XX Waterman in Parkview. Newt’s friends and fellow scouts from Boy Scout Troop 98 from St. Roch’s Church helped sort and count the pennies, transporting them from the Forest Park Forever office in plastic milk bottles that held about $25 each, to Central West End Bank to be counted and bagged. Central West End Bank’s Manager of Teller Services, Tony Pietrangelo, recalled the boys made numerous trips before the $950 was sorted and recounted into money sacks. Security Armored Car Company volunteered to pick up the bagged coin and transport it to the Federal Reserve Bank.
