On June 5, 1992, the 5900 block of DeGiverville celebrated the life of Mr. William McReynolds, a long time resident of the block.

The members of Block Unit 1338 invited neighbors and friends to the brief ceremony in which a dogwood tree and shrubs were planted in the cul-de-sac in his honor. Mr. McReynolds passed away in April.

His wife Marie chose the tree herself. Mr. Mack, or ‘Partner; as he was affectionately known to friends was remembered with personal remarks and prayers from neighbors as well as a poem written by block unit president Jesse Brown.

In his remarks, Mr. Brown called Mr. McReynolds a ‘role model who was able to show love among his friends and family.” Mrs. Deveres, another neighbor, stated “He was always there when you needed him. Broken pipes, leaky roof, remodeling, whatever, he came.

To know a person like that was a privilege and an honor.” William McReynolds was an active member of the block unit and was instrumental in maintaining the neighborhood’s appearance.

He worked tirelessly sweeping and picking up trash along the alley behind his house.

He had recently planted rose bushes in the same cutde-sac that now includes his memorial tribute. Although he is no longer with us, his memory and spirit will live in the families and homes of those he touched.

We will also have the dogwood tree at the end of the block to remind us of him for many years to come. Note: Ms. Davenport Is secretary of block unit 1338.
