After nine years in the Kingsbury Kiosk at the corner of Kingsbury and DesPeres, the St. Louis Public library is moving to a new home at 356 N. Skinker, the former Eliot Smith Gallery space.
The Library considered several Possible sites recommended by the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council before determining that the Skinker location offered the best combination of space, patron and staff safety, location within the community, and cost.
The new location is handicapped accessible, with parking available across McPherson behind a service station.
The Library plans to open at the new location on June 2. Hours of service will be the same as those currently available at the Kiosk: Tuesday through Friday 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 am. to 6:00 p.m.
The new location will offer a browsing collection of contemporary titles in fiction and non-fiction for adults and children and will provide an Intelligent Catalog and fax, with access to the holdings of the entire St. Louis Public library system.
Dr. Glen Holt, Executive Director of the St. Louis Public Library, in speaking about the move said, “Our hope is that this move to a new location will result in increased use, improved service to the community, and greater safety for staff and patrons.”
