Where’s Waldo? Special Exhibit At St. Louis Public Library

October 1991

Historical October 1991 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Kids everywhere love Waldo, a tall, skinny, bespectacled traveler who’s always lost in a crowd. Waldo fans have searched out this unlikely hero on the pages of three wildly popular books— Where’s Waldo?, Where’s Waldo Now?, and The Great Waldo Search—created by illustrator Martin Handford.

Now children can take their quest to the St. Louis Public Library where a special interactive exhibit will be on display in the Great Hall of Central Library from September 18 through October 23. Admission is free.

The exhibit, on loan from the Kohl Children’s museum in Wilmette, Illinois, presents giant reproductions of the pages of Where’s Waldo? Visitors can test their powers of observation by locating a series of specific items in the exhibit. Children insert the completed checklists in a mailbox that is part of the exhibit. Once a week during the exhibit’s five-week visit, the library will hold a drawing and present each winner with a set of the three Waldo books.

The Where’s Waldo? exhibit is scheduled in conjunction with St. Louis Public Library’s Children’s Literature Festival. Other festival activities will take place on October 10, 11 and 12. Central Library is located at 1301 Olive Street. Visitors may enter the library through the Olive Street entrances or through a new entrance at the back of the library, near the intersection of 13th and Locust Streets, which leads to the new Youth Services Center. Central Library is open Monday from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M.; Tuesday through Friday from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M.; and Saturday from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.
