News From Operation SafeStreet

October 1991

Historical October 1991 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

We are living in a time of exemplary leadership across the globe. Just two years ago, we were inspired by the courage of one young man who stood face-on to a tank in Tiananmen Square.

Now we are witnessing monumental change sweeping Europe.

The dramatic break-up of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics has captured our attention—dramatically fueled by the idealism, creativity, energy and courage of the “common people.” Everyday people, without notoriety, are undertaking unselfish acts that are changing the face of the globe.

We are not facing tanks or coups. St. Louis has, however, gone from a ten year low in burglary last year, to today, when there are few neighborhoods that aren’t experiencing an increase. Burglary is one of the most preventable Crimes.

It takes a little creativity and energy, but with the drama of the “common people,” we could eliminate much of the victimization. Take it upon yourself to talk to someone you know on your block who is over 62 and retired, disabled, or has been a recent burglary victim and have them call Operation SafeStreet for free home security. Then, get to know your neighbors, form a Neighborhood Watch with the help of your Police Public Affairs Officer, and make your block a safe place to live.

If “just the common people” of this City organized block by block, secured their homes, refused to see problem buildings as fait accompli, we too could be changing the face of this little corner of the globe.

Call us.

We want to help! Operation SafeStreet 622-3444. Operation SafeStreet is a non-profit crime prevention organization. Our home security crews can install double cylinder dead bolt locks, pin first floor windows, install a removable basement door barricade, peep holes in front doors, bars on basement windows, and smoke detectors.

If you do not qualify for free services given to seniors, disabled, and burglary victims, Operation SafeStreet can still provide services for you at a nominal fee.
