Summer Camps And Classes Abound: YWCA Has Summer Day Camp Openings

Historical June 1990 report or notice. Original dates, prices and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Summer is fast approaching and the need for youth recreational activities will become greater.

To meet these needs, the YWCA of Metro St. Louis will be providing a variety of Summer Day Camp opportunities.

For three fun-filled months, area youth ages 5 through 15 can enjoy an array of enrichment activities at Camp Derricotte. Five of the YWCA six service sites offer Camp Derricotte, a safe, affordable co-ed day camp. Included in the daily activities are games, arts & crafts, dramas, movies, rollerskating and more.

A free lunch and beverages are provided but youths can bring their own lunches if desired. Several professionally-supervised field trips are planned to places like Grant’s Farm, Springfield, Missouri, Forest Park and the Gateway Arch.

A recreational swim, group singing and dancing along with indoor/outdoor sports, make Camp Derricotte an enlightening experience for area youth.

In addition to Camp Derricotte, the YWCA also offers its summer KEYS program at more than 10 locations throughout the city and county. KEYS is an acronym for “Keep Every Youngster Safe.” This program is held in a licensed care center and provides a safe, fun place for children of working parents and guardians.

Most of the summer Day Camp and KEYS programs begin around June 4 and extend through August 24.

Each YWCA site offers its own program schedule, so it is necessary to call the nearest Branch for times, dates and fees.

The YWCA sites which offer Summer Day Camp Derricotte and/or KEYS are: Women’s Resource Center-6665 Delmar Blvd., contact Jan Nast, 726-6665. Carondelet Branch-4510 S. Kingshighway, Contact Sherry Christ, 832-2000. County Branch-140 N. Brentwood Blvd., contact Dahna Willis, 725-7203. Kinloch Branch-5810 Monroe St., conact Nonie Smith, 521-1498.
