Hey Neighbor, Can You Spare A Golf Club?

Historical April 1990 report or notice. Original dates, prices and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Bicycle wheels, horse shoes, a rocket cone, doorknobs inscribed with Thomas Jefferson’s head, golf clubs, metal arrows, and small railroad ties. What do these items have in common? They’re all pieces that have something to do with Forest Park and they’ll all find their way into a Metro Link sculpture the last week in April.

This “Arts in Transit” project for the BiState Metro Link station at the corner of DeBaliviere and Forest Park Parkway is on its way.

An “Assemblage” of metal parts from neighbors and institutions in the park will be welded together the last week of April to make an attractive sculpture.

Once welded and cemented in the spot, the sculpture. curated by Skinker-DeBaliviere residents John Nunley and Linda HorsleyNunley, will be Art (representing the St. Louis Art Museum), or at least amusing—and certainly a beginning to a worthwhile transit project. Volunteers and items are needed!

Please give golf clubs and bicycle wheels and see your old metal take shape. Contact the Nunley’s at 727-7496 or the SDCC at 862-5122.

There will be a ceremony to mark the finished sculpture the first week of May P.S.

The rocket cone is from the Science Center, the doorknobs are from the History Museum, and the railroad ties from the Zoo. Said Zoo Director Charlie Hoessle, “Sorry, no old cages!”
