The Breitmayer Community Ministry of Grace United Methodist Church operates a job referral service that can be used by Skinker-DeBaliviere residents. Linda Emerson, director of the ministry, matches people together.
She has files on about 100 workers who can do housekeeping, yard work, painting, babysitting, clerical and general handyman jobs.
These workers can be called for immediate temporary work for a day, or possibly hired for longer terms.
The ministry conducts reference checking before sending anyone out, and asks for an evaluation afterwards. Payment is between the employer and worker, and no payments are made to Breitmayer.
The Ministry would like to have more workers on file because Linda is getting calls for jobs she cannot fill.
For instance, an unusual request for two chauffeurs over age 55 to drive elderly citizens was received recently, and there was no one in her files with those qualifications. Linda has also been getting calls for people with secretarial and data processing skills.
If you are interested in earning extra money, this job referral service would be a good place to list your name. Linda would like to set up refresher classes on housecleaning, laundry, and household repairs.
She is hopeful that teachers can be found, as well as sites for on the job training.
