February 1988

Historical February 1988 report or notice. Original dates, prices and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

You’ve witnessed a crime. Or perhaps someone has told you about a crime. You might have recognized a suspect in the newspaper or on a TV newscast. What do you do about it? Call CRIMESTOPPERS HOTLINE at 621-1999.

When you call the CRIMESTOPPERS number, the operator gives you a code number. Your name is never used and your identity remains secret. The information is given to the appropriate police department for investigation. At an agreed-on time, you call back to see what progress has been made.

If your tip was helpful and an arrest made, you may learn that CRIMESTOPPERS has approved a reward. * Payment of the reward is arranged to protect your anonymity.

The St. Louis CRIMESTOPPERS are part of a national network in over 600 communities.

To date, over 92,000 felonies have been solved as a direct result of this program.

In St. Louis, as in every community in the network, CRIMESTOPPERS is an independent organization, administered by a board of local residents, working with police and media to generate information on specific crimes.

In just over a year since incorporation, the St. Louis CRIMESTOPPERS have established a success record with an average of 1 arrest per month. CRIMESTOPPERS and the police guarantee anonymity. Cash rewards have been paid to 74% of the callers whose tips resulted in arrests.

To contact the CRIMESTOPPERS HOTLINE, citizens may call 621-1999 at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
