St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, a joint project of the St. Louis Arts and Humanities Commission and the St. Louis University School of Law, is a pilot program which will provide free legal services to artists and arts organizations which meet eligibility criteria.
A referral service, based at St. Louis University School of Law, will refer eligible clients to participating metro area attorneys who have agreed to contribute legal services free of charge. Participating attorneys specialize in a variety of arts-related areas such as contract law, copyright law, not-for-profit incorporation, etc.
The St. Louis project is the first chapter of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts to be established in Missouri. Program Coordinator and Skinker-DeBaliviere neighbor, Marvin Nodiff, will screen potential clients.
If they meet eligibility criteria, they will be referred to the appropriate participating lawyer.
To be eligible, individual artists and arts organizations must have incomes or annual budgets below a predetermined amount, and the legal issue for which assistance is being sought must be directly related to their artistic pursuits. Further information regarding the services available through St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and eligibility guidelines, are available from: St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, c/o St. Louis University School of Law, 3700 Lindell, St, Louis, Mo. 63108. Or call 658-2778, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
