For those who have forgotten, maybe knew, or “heard about it, but didn’t pay attention”: the Seventh District Public Affairs Committee meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Yalem Center, 724 N. Union, at 7:30 P.M. to provide a forum where Police and Citizens can keep in touch with each other and with what is going on in Seventh District. (For those same unaware . . . we’re in Team l’s district-within-the-district. so when they talk about numero uno, prick up your ears.)
At every meeting, the District Commander (Capt. Gay Carraway) or the Watch Commander (depending who isn’t doing something more important, i.e. involved directly with a crime) gives a report on the status of the district. Unless it’s a heavy night, you can usually count on meeting many of the District’s officers, who come to observe, meet the folks. listen to gripes (and also maybe to get in off the Street).
This month’s meeting will be on March 4, 1980. The featured speaker will be George Peach, Circuit Attorney, talking about the new “crime hotline.” As readers of the daily papers know all too well, this program has aroused some controversy among the Black community leaders, as to its manner of release to the media and its implications. This is YOUR chance to ask questions, to hear the background, and find out how well the program is working after about a month.
Future meetings of the Seventh District Public Affairs Committee will be found in your monthly Calendar section of The Paper.
