March 1980

Plans are underway for the annual Skinker-DeBaliviere Art Fair/House Tour on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1980. The Art Fair Committee will hold its fourth meeting on March 4th at 7:30 P.M. —thanks to our host, Dick Webb, at 6157 Pershing Avenue. If you want to help make Skinker-DeBaliviere a success in the future, plan to attend this vital meeting. The fair Co-Chairmen, Dick Webb (726.2470) and Rich Lake (727.7378), need all the help they can get. Remember that this neighborhood of ours and this annual event are like a representative democracy in the sense that our future well being depends on consensus and wide participation of citizens. Attendance at the first three meetings belies grass roots support for continuation of the Art Fair.

To show that you care about “75 Successful Years of St. Louis Living,” which is our theme for the 1980 Art Fair, call any subcommittee chairperson for an immediate assignment.

The subcommittee chairpersons are Marilyn Kimbrough (artists) 727.5134, Lois Schoemehl (house tour) 727.8199, Joyce Stone (children’s art) 721-3828, George or Karen Brown (sanitation) 721-3188, Hal Lansing (publicity) 863.7054, Joanne Vatcha (food) 726-6974, Brad Weir (traffic and fences) 863.7558, and Arline Webb (information booth) 726-2470.

The committee has applied for a financial grant from the First National Bank in St. Louis which would assist in promoting our Fair. That is the kind of innovation and initiative which could attract potential residents and inspire present ones, keeping us in business into the 21st century. We need your innovation and initiative too. After all, our collective future is the bottom line.

Be there!
