Rosedale’s Report

June 1978

Our annual Men’s Liberation Cake Sale, held at the Art Fair, was again very successful, as well as a lot of fun for the able and willing males in our organization. Led by Tom Consiglio, who did a marvellous job of recruiting, the men hawked cakes and burritos and earned us $183.00, even better than last year’s total. Thanks to Tom and all the men who did so well, and thanks too to all you equally able women (and kids) who did the baking when the chefs faltered. Thanks to everyone, we had a successful fund raiser and a good time.

Other recent work consisted of a Paper Drive, which was held, unfortunately, at the lowest point of price for paper in many moons. We have, of course, been through the ups and downs before and have reappeared on the streets undaunted. Those who had delusions of grandeur this time, however, had a bit of disappointment, as the terrible total was only $12.87. Seriously, we want to emphasize that this was due solely to the fallen price of paper. We do not want to mislead anyone into saving every paper for evermore. If and when the price of paper rises again, we will alert you via The Paper to start saving anew and we will time a new Paper Drive. In the meantime, do what you will with your papers.

We would like to thank this Drive’s able workers, who, like so many of you in years past, have given up time on Saturday to collect papers and ride the trucks, and we thank you. This time the workers were: Roy Bell, Sam Green, Neville Vatcha, Bill Keslar, John Griesbach, Danny Nerviani, Brian Gerard, Bob Newsham, and this spring’s organizer, Mario Gioia, and the indefatigable Brad Weir. Thanks to all of you, and you savers, too, and we promise a new Paper Drive someday!

Our treasury at the present time consists of $230.00 reserved for trees, which are to be planted on Washington and elsewhere this fall (our order did not make it in time for the spring plantings), and a balance otherwise of $293.00.

We are going to collect memberships this year at our June and September meetings, and if you wish to mail yours in, send $3.00 to Mary Gioia, Treasurer, 6131 Kingsbury, St. Louis, Mo. 63112. Membership money goes to support the Paper, as well as many activities which require small but steady doses of monetary support, such as the Halloween party for the kids and donuts for the adults who watch over them. Our new neighbors party absorbed some cash last year, as does the rental of a hall whenever we have a meeting. We would also like to be able to give some money to The Paper this year, as well as consider other donations. Please plan to send us $3.00 if you can this year.

Our next general meeting will be the free POTLUCK DINNER, held at Scariot Hall, on June 9. All we ask is that you come armed with the thing you cook best, and plenty of it. We’ll provide some of the other accompaniments to good dining, and there will be a cash bar and plenty of good company. See you there!
