Michael Grady — Welcome Back Mike!

December 1977

Original portrait of St. Roch’s teacher Michael Grady.

From the St. Roch’s student journalism page in The Paper, December 1977. Original student wording and bylines are preserved; Marj Weir’s accompanying introduction explains the classroom project.

The new sixth grade teacher at St. Roch’s this year is Mr. Michael Grady. Mr. Grady was born in 1954 in St. Louis. He attended St. Elizabeth’s in Crestwood through the sixth grade and St. Roch’s in grades seven and eight, so he is no stranger to our neighborhood. After graduating from Chaminade High School, he attended Washington University and received a degree in Education and Political Science. He now teaches the fifth and sixth grades social studies, which is one of his specialties.

Mr. Grady has hobbies, too. While he isn’t playing fullback on a soccer team called the Trashmen Inc., he is usually coaching freshman and sophomore soccer at Mercy High. He will also probably be coaching seventh grade boys’ basketball at St. Roch’s.

The reason Mr. Grady became a teacher is because “I enjoyed my previous coaching and working at the gym.” Also, like other people he has views on St. Roch’s. “I like to know most of the people I’m working with and I enjoyed knowing them before I came here.” Mr.

Grady lives on Pershing behind St. Roch’s Church.
