Rosedale News

November 1977

Last spring’s and this fall’s Paper Drives have yielded enough money to again offer trees at matching funds to all Rosedale residents. The tree will be planted on the parkway in front of your home by the city Forestry Division and is guaranteed for one year. The trees are checked periodically, mulched, and fed. The price to you for all this is only $5; Rosedale will pay the other $5. It’s a price that can’t be beat. Please let us know if you want a tree NOW. Call 726- 6974.

Grass seed was available free from the Beautification Commission, and RNA got a sizeable quantity, thanks to Karen Bynum. Please contact Karen (862-6874) if you wnat to have some free grass seed for your yard. Now is the perfect time to plant it! We were unable to get tulips. There was such a large demand that, despite several trips to the Beautification office, Karen’s hard work was not rewarded. Maybe next year?

RNA held a “New Neighbors” GetTogether on October 7th at Scariot Hall. We were delighted to see so many of our new residents come — there was a point when on-time newcomers outnumbered late-coming “old” neighbors!

Noteworthy guests included several apartment dwellers from Pershing and Waterman, as well as new home buyers in the area, we were happy to see. We hope you’ll feel welcome and come again to our neighborhood activities.

There was one other important piece of Rosedale news this month, and that concerns one of our elected representatives to the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council. Due to a conflict of meeting times, Dan Schesch has resigned as one of RNA’s four representatives. According to the by-laws of RNA, the President has appointed, with the approval of a majority of the Executive Committee, Mrs. Dorothy Lloyd to fill Dan’s unexpired term (until March, 1978). Dorothy lives on the 6000 block of McPherson and is a welcome addition to our organization. We wish Dan well in his work on the Citizens Education Task Force, and we hope he will continue to give us the benefit of his time and experience in neighborhood activities.

We are planning now to sponsor a New Year’s Eve Party at St. Roch’s, which we certainly want to be a Neighborhood activity. Rosedale is just going to do the legwork of kicking the event off. We are eager to have the participation of All Residents who want to come.

We are planning to start the ticket sales at the Dinner Theatre, and need we tell you that, with a band booked named The Now and Then, a great evening, close to home, is at hand. Do plan on it!
