On September 7th at 8:30 the bell rang to begin a new school year at Hamilton Br. 3. We were happy to welcome back our former students who all seemed larger—and to greet the many new students.
There were many changes made over the summer which were brought immediately to the children’s attention. Mrs. Doris Jones our school principal last year is no longer with us. Staff and students alike certainly miss her warm smile and most efficient leadership. We wish her well in her new position at Hempstead School. Mr. Roger Mick is our new principal. He came to us from Walnut Park Branch and has already shown himself to be a dedicated hard working administrator. We were pleased to welcome him to our shcool.
We lost a unique teacher, Mrs. Koch, (remember the reading bathtub?) to the reading clinic and we have a new teacher in room 201—Mrs. Graham, a cheerful experienced teacher from Stowe School. All the other faces are the same but there were other changes. Ms. Hart is now Mrs. Davis, Ms. Stephenson is now Mrs. Schmink and Mrs. Johnson now has a two month old baby boy. Congratulations.
If you happened to pass our school Sept. 20th you would have seen a horse in the schoolyard. The Seventh District Police were sponsoring a Name the Horse Contest for children 14 and under. They brought the horse so the children could see for themselves and then decide what would be a suitable name. We hope one of our students will be the winner.
Parent involvement has always been most helpful and greatly appreciated. We wish to invite our parents and friends with some time to spare to call Mr. Mick at the school at 863-7266 to arrange to contribute whatever time you have in classrooms, lunchroom, office, or however you feel you can assist us.
We want to thank our Parent Congress representatives Marjorie Weir, Loretta Lloyd, Karen Bynum, Rubina Patton and Patricia Krippner for the excellent job at the September meeting of the PAC.
We will have our first PTA meeting of the year very soon. When you receive notice of the date and time please plan to attend and meet our new principal and teacher. We feel we are off to a good start and would like to continue to feel your support in providing quality education for all our children.
