Becomes Highest Ranking Woman in City Gov’t.
Rose Storey, long time 28th Ward and Washington Heights resident, has been appointed clerk of the Court of Criminal Corrections by Gov. Teasdale. This is the same position for which her husband George campaigned unsuccessfully in 1974. She assumes the duties of the late James Lavin who died in office after serving over twenty years. He was often criticized for the whimsical manner in which he conducted the court’s business. Those of us familiar with Rose’s energy and ability to organize recognize the governor’s wisdom in putting this competent woman in charge of the 25 patronage employees she will supervise.
Rose will serve until 1979 when the state court system will be completely revised and this position will be eliminated. The duties, at that time, will be shifted to another office and Rose feels she will probably be getting another title and a slightly different job description under the new system.
Rose, mother of eight, lives at 5792 Waterman, She has served as the only woman to chair St. Roch’s Parish Assembly and Executive Committee. She has been active in St. Roch’s School Association, Red Cross Blood Drives, WHN Flower Sales, and various activities of the 28th Ward Democratic Club.
