Order of the Arrow News

October 1977

Three newly elected Order of the Arrow chapter officers.

Hugh Bender of Troop 98, sponsored by St. Roch’s Church, was recently elected Lodge Chief of the Shawnee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. The Shawnee Lodge is among the three largest in the country, containing over 4000 members.

The Order of the Arrow is the “Honor Campers” society of Scouting, and is responsible for numerous camp improvement projects at the S-F Scout Ranch and Beaumont Scout Reservation. The O.A. also encourages Scouts to attend summer camp through an intensive Camp Promotion effort. Hugh will be directing these and other Lodge activities for the next year.

In the West Chapter, which covers the city between Natural Bridge and Highway 40, the newly elected chapter officers are: Chief, Nelson Boston of Troop 154; Vice-chiefs, Dwayne Crampton of Troop 5; and George Starks of Troop 98.

Newly inducted members to the O.A. from our area are Uriah Zachery, Troop 31, Kurt Hoefel and Tony Starks of Troop 98. These scouts were elected by their troops at summercamp because of their camping experience and service to their troops.
