The 1977-78 season of Music at Trinity (Trinity Episcopal Church, 600 N. Euclid) promises FOUR SUNDAY AFTERNOONS devoted to music. The programs include a medieval pastoral, “Le Jeu de Robin et Marion”, performed by the New World Concert on Oct. 9, a lieder recital by Joanne Cruickshank and Helen Hendry on Jan. 22, a concert of baroque music by harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock on Mar. 19, and a recital by the Young St. Louis pianist Ingrid Jacoby on May 14. All concerts begin at 3:00 p.m. Seasons tickets are $12.50 and may be used one at a time, for any single program, or in any variation. Tickets for individual concerts are $3.50. Student tickets will be available at the door for $1.00. Tickets may be ordered by mail. Please make checks payable to Music at Trinity.
This season continues a long tradition of musical activity at Trinity Episcopal Church in the Central West End. As early as the 1860’s, concerts were given by the Trinity choir and the St. Louis Philharmonic Society (an organization which the present St. Louis Philharmonic claims as its ancestor). More recently, parishioners of Trinity Church founded the Society of St. Cecilia which, since 1957, has presented a variety of programs including the highly successful annual festival in honor of the patron saint of music.
In the fall of 1975, the Society sponsored the first season of Music at Trinity. This series is designed to offer to St. Louis audiences solo recitals and chamber music concerts by established performers and promising young professionals. Programming and performances have drawn enthusiastic comments from audiences and critics. The fine acoustics and pleasant character of the Trinity Church building at Washington and Euclid contribute to the attractiveness of the series.
Financial assistance for Music at Trinity has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council.
