Letter to WHN President — Proposed Community Center

Historical October 1977 letter. Opinions and allegations remain attributed to the original writer; the archive does not independently establish those allegations.

My Dear Mr. President: Concerning the proposed Community Center, and it’s no secret, when the whole idea was brought to my attention, I was very definitely against it and shall always be whether it is on my street or any other in this neighborhood. I would like very much to see this area kept residential, for if I didn’t, I would be all in favor of a Jack-In-The-Box. Maybe those of you that are for the proposed Community Center, could move it close to your own residence.

I feel that you do not need to apologize because anything I have said in the past stands now and in the future. I have a right as an individual to my own feelings and thoughts concerning this whole matter. If this is not America where you can speak out, then where is it? I was under the impression that we were given Freedom of Speech but then I could be wrong since I do not agree with the situation at hand. .
