Jan. 17,1977 After a joyous Christmas vacation we at Hamilton Br. 3 began to brave the snow and cold weather to get back to the business of school.

The family that received the food and clothing you shared at Christmas wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all of you. Our children who worked so hard preparing their Christmas program certainly were encouraged to see the large number of parents who attended. A big thank you for your concern and interest.

Hamilton Br. 3 PTA had the pleasure of having Dr. David Mahan, district superintendent, as its guest at the evening meeting Dec. 16. Dr. Mahan answered questions and discussed our many concerns.

We hope to have Dr. Mahan again soon. Our January meeting was held Jan. 19 during the afternoon and you will be notified of the date of our evening February PTA meeting. Please continue to try to make these meetings.

Our parent conferences were a success Jan. 27. Our children seem to be sincere in their efforts to work even harder during the new second semester.

This school year Hamilton Br. 3 had average attendance of 96.7% whereas the average percentage for elementary schools was 93.8. You can see our school attendance has been generally good. Please continue to make every effort to get your children to school everyday. We have a Grand Prix car race posted in the front hall. Your child’s room can win a treat if they have the largest perfect attendance days in a month. We need your help.

We are trying to acquire new audio visual equipment for our school. We are doing this by saving Campbell Soup Labels. Please send any and all Campbell soup labels by your children.

Feb. 28 through March 4 is Red Carpet Week. We will have a variety of activities for parents. Please anticipate our invitation to you to visit our school that week for something you won’t want to miss.

Hamilton Br. 3 children are still busy doing many interesting activities to make school and learning more fun…

In Room 201 Mrs. Kimberly Bedell from Harris Teachers College introduced the students to an exciting language center involving “lantern poems.” This class took the opportunity during the snowy days to make a nice big snow man on the playground and to enjoy some “snow ice cream”. December and January birthdays were also celebrated in Room 201.

Room 203 gave a puppet show and invited

Room 101 who enjoyed it immensely. Rooms 201 and 204 are preparing a puppet show to present to the whole school.

We would like to extend a “thank you” to Mrs. Virginia Weiss, our Springboard to Learning teacher. She has been working with several classes on puppetry. It is time now for her to go to another school and we will certainly miss her contributions.

The children in Room 103 are now preparing for Black History Week. Black History Week is usually the second week in February. The children will be presenting a program for parents and other visitors. The students will be learning about famous Black Americans. Mary Hendron is the apprentice in this room. Room 101 has a new apprentice teacher, Mr. Michael Glickert. They made Alaskan snow ice cream with a recipe using instant vanilla pudding and fresh white snow. We hope to see many of you at our Red Carpet Week even if the snow and ice and cold don’t go away.
