People’s Clinic — Letter to Members

December 1976

Historical December 1976 People’s Clinic reporting. Fees, funding needs, contact details and health information describe the period, not current services or medical guidance.

Dear Friend,

During the past year, you became a Member of the People’s Clinic. As a Member, you have the right to be involved in the decision making process that makes this a People’s Clinic, and to know the actions of your elected representatives. As you will know from the Bulletin, our funding under the Manpower Program will cease at the end of March, and we are faced with the need to raise $16,000 to cover core staff salaries, malpractice insurance, and the other costs of running our Clinic, which are over and above the income we have from patient services.

In deliberating how to meet this need, the Community Health Council decided first to turn to our own community for support. We are a diverse neighborhood, with people of all races, religions, and economic backgrounds. A health service to meet the needs of such a diverse group of people can ill afford to be tied to “outside forces” through dependance on funds. Thus, funding from within the community will keep the control of the Clinic within the community.

We are actively seeking new Members, both individuals and businesses. We are soliciting the support of churches, neighborhood groups, and other organizations within our community. And YOU can demonstrate your support by renewing your membership for the year 1977, and encouraging all your neighbors to become Members also.

Together, we can show that, in our neighborhood at least, health care is a human right, and a community responsibility!

Sincerely yours,

Anna L. Busch

Secretary, Community Health Council

Chairperson, Membership Committee
