Des Peres Branch Library

November 1975

November events at the library will draw upon local talent for some of the programs.

Brian Krippner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Krippner, will be exhibiting the best items from his collection of beer cans and football cards in the display case at the children’s section of the library.

Aquarian Center director Vivian Joynes will join with the library in giving a program on vegetable protein and its nutritional values and ways of preparation, on Saturday, November 15, at 1 p.m. Whether you’re concerned about the problem of world hunger or methods of nourishing your family with less meat, this program will stress some basic ideas. There will also be samples of several recipes, and a book display. This program is planned for adults.

For children, a bread-making experience will take place on November 19, starting at 3:30 p.m. Bread will be made up to the point of going into the pan, and then the children may take their loaves home to bake them. This program will be limited to the first 20 children between 8 and 11 to sign up.

On November 22, at 2 p.m., a program on burglarproofing the home will be presented by Officer William Ward of the Burglary Prevention Advisory Section of the St. Louis Police Department.

Thanksgiving Eve — November 26 at 4 p.m. — we will hold a short children’s program about the customs of Thanksgiving, featuring Thanksgiving stories old and new.

During November the adult display case will contain a collection of nurses’ caps and pins from nursing schools in the St. Louis area. This display, sponsored by the local chapter of American Nurses’ Association, will also include career information and leaflets from the schools involved. If any group is interested, we could also arrange a speaker from the ANA.

HELP?

Is there a talented person in the neighborhood who would like to volunteer to lead a crafts program in the library, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly? The children are eager and creative, but we at the library don’t have that particular skill.

Failing that, is there someone who would like to help us make Christmas decorations after school some afternoon in early December, to decorate the library Christmas tree?

And finally—does anyone have an extra long rug or upholstered chair to donate to library to makes its story corner more cozy for story hours?

Anyone who can help, please call Jean Roberts, 726-2653. And thanks a million.
