I Remember When — River Des Peres and Rosedale Cafe

May 1974

Historic view of an open River Des Peres channel and Westminster houses.

Do you remember when the River Des Peres was still an open river dividing our neighborhood? This picture was taken in 1931, right before the river was encased in its huge pipe. It was taken from a spot which is now in front of Hamilton Branch III School, looking west. The building in the center of the picture is 6006 Westminster and the river can be seen at the bottom of the picture.

Do you remember when the Rosedale Cafe was on the corner of Delmar and Rosedale? Though we’re not sure, we feel this picture was taken in 1931, also.
