WHN March Meeting and Election

By Nancy Waggoner

Speakers form other areas of the city provided and interesting forum at the Washington Heights General Meeting on March 7, 1974.

A slide presentation by Macler Sheppard portrayed the development of the Jeff-Vander-Lou, Inc. , neighborhood group, as residents recognized the problems of their area, and leaders set priorities and established programs. Measured success has been gained in its seven year history.

Peter Pfeffer shared his experience and obvious pleasure in working with vacant and vandalized buildings in the Soulard area. Peter, and partner Bob, manage four buildings, screen tenants, and supervise the “Soulard Handyman” program, which employs retired handymen to perform repairs for elderly homeowners.

Joe Mensing, from our own neighborhood, spoke about his rehab work on two homes on Waterman.
