The sanctuary of Grace Church, lit by candles, will be the scene of the Annual Carol Service on Sunday, December 16, 1973 at 4:00 p.m.
The service will feature the Grace, Epworth and Wesley Choirs of the church as well as instrumental ensembles.
The theme this year is “The Characters at the Manger.”
It will be realized in the readings from Scripture and contemporary literature, and in the carols of the congregation and anthems of the choirs.
The Choral selections range from medieval plainsong to contemporary jazz.
Beginning with the candelight procession of the choirs to the choral benediction, the service will reflect the many moods of the Christmas event.
The musical portions of the service are under the direction of Mrs. Orvid Halane and Mr. David A. Porkola, the Interim Minister of Music, who commented:
“It is our sincere hope that our neighbors in the Skinker-DeBaliviere and the Parkview neighborhoods will join us at this celebration.
I don’t know any better way to get acquainted than by singing together the great carols and sharing the joy that is Christmas. I hope that the community will respond to this invitation, and that we will have a chance to make a lot of new friends.”
The worship leaders will be the Rev. Robert Gordon, and the Rev. Wesley Brun, pastors of the church.
There is no admission charge, but an offering will be taken.
