The Barry Leader Drug Store, long a neighborhood institution, has changed hands, and there’s a new face on Skinker Boulevard these days. The new owner is William A. Fitzpatrick, R. Ph., a young man with already an unusually varied experience as a pharmacist.
Mr. Kirkpatrick graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1965.
While in school he held various class offices, played on the varsity basket ball team, and worked as a lab assistant in the micro-biology laboratory. All of this resulted in his receiving at graduation the Johnson and Johnson award for outstanding leadership.
Since graduating he has held several offices in the alumni association of the college, as well as offices in Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical fraternity.
From January 1971 to June 1973 he was executive secretary for this organization of 30,000 members, responsible for managing the business affairs of its national office.
For a man only thirty years old he has had an unusually varied and responsible experience.
Immediately after graduation he was a supervisor at the Barnes Hospital Pharmacy for a year and a half.
Then for another eighteen months he was Manager for the Kean Drug Company, responsible for its prescription department.
Later he set up the Medi-Mark Pharmacy. for the Schnuck Food Stores, organizing a drugstore operation which included over-the-counter products as well as the pharmacy.
He also managed the Nagel Pharmacy and was for a year administrator at the St. Louis Geriatric Nursing Center.
And now he has “gone into business for myself” and came to us. (And lucky we are to get him!)
All the prescriptions and accounts remain in the store and will go on as usual.
In view of the neighborhood need for a food store, he plans to add a few more food items, such as canned soups.
A new line of Hostess Cakes has already been stocked.
Mr. Fitzpatrick lives in Manchester, is married and has four little daughters, whose picture he will show you with the slightest encouragement.
He wants to get acquainted and become part of the neighborhood. Drop in and see him some time.
The former owner, Sidney A. Goldberg, “Sid” to all of us, has bought the Dormeyer Claymont Pharmacy, a much larger establishment in the Claymont Shopping Center on Clayton Road in Ballwin.
Good luck to both new owners.
