Thrift Store Opens

June 1973

UNITED METHODIST METRO MINISTRY THRIFT STORE AND SERVICE CENTER On May 1, 1973, a Thrift Store was opened at 5892 Delmar, where one may buy good used clothing for the whole family from 5¢ to $1.00; no item is over $1.00.

WHAT IS METRO MINISTRY?

It is a mission arm of the Missouri-East Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church in metropolitan St. Louis, to work through Social Services, Parish Development, Education, Summer Ministry, Pastoral Ministry, etc.

Through its Social Services, Metro seeks to provide emergency food and clothing needs for people throughout the city by receiving referrals from local churches and cooperating social agencies. The needs of the clients are verified by the referring agency for the Metro Staff.

Pantries have been set up for food in four city churches – the Thrift Store for clothing. It is hoped a pantry can be located in the Thrift Store in the near future.
