WHN Block Unit News

October 1971

The youth club of the 5900 block of DeGiverville sponsored and planned a trip to the Meramec Cave this summer. The group raised money to charter a bus for the trip by giving their own block parties. Each youth attending brought a box lunch and paid for his own ticket to tour the cave. The adult members of the block unit donated soda for the outing. About thirty youths from the block attended. They enjoyed the outing and hope to have another one as soon as possible.

The members of the 5700 block of DeGiverville sponsored a carnival and street dance on August 28 for children and teens of the block. There were many games and booths, including a fish pond, bowling table, bean bag toss, and a booth featuring craft items made by the children of the block during the summer. Each child on the block was treated to free soda and hot dogs, and everyone came home with plenty of balloons and prizes. A street dance was held for teens from late afternoon to early evening.
