House Tour — 316 N. Skinker

May 1978

Original exterior photograph of the apartment building at 316 N. Skinker.

Historical May 1978 house-tour profile. Printed signature: A.W.. Full author identity is unconfirmed; no individual is inferred from the initials. Buildings, occupants and renovations describe the source issue.

Mr. Leon Gordon’s home at 316 N. Skinker is the only apartment represented on the 1978 house tour. It is a large apartment, fortunately, since Mr. Gordon needs as much wall space as possible to display his collection of art work. To walk through his home is to tour a small, friendly, eclectic art gallery. One almost misses the other fine parts of the house.

The rooms are large and well-proportioned; they were recently painted in pastel shades of blue, green and beige which make them appear even larger and more airy. There is a chandelier in the living room dating from the mid-1800s which complements the traditional furniture in that room.

In addition to the art work on the walls, Mr. Gordon has a plate collection which deserves close attention from those who tour his home.

There also is a lovely, well-filled curio cabinet in the hallway.

People who visit Mr. Gordon’s apartment will be advised to save it for the last stop on their tour since once they are there they will find it extremely hard to leave. A.W.
