Seminars Planned in Skinker-DeBaliviere

October 1977

Interested in finding out about the various school in Skinker-DeBaliviere? Wonder how schools affect your neighborhood and pro-party? Curious about how your friends and neighbors feel about education? Would you like to be part of a group examining all the educational opportunities in Skinker-DeBaliviere? Then the Skinker-DeBaliviere “Issues Seminar” is for you!

While the Issues Seminar format has been utilized in the San Francisco, Detroit, and St. Louis School Systems, this will be its first use with a neighborhood group. The seminar is actually a method through which individuals can examine issues, trade ideads, and reach decisions about important issues in an orderly problem-wolving fashion. Simply put, the process involves participants working together by examining neighborhood educational issues in a structured format.

The Skinker-DeBaliviere Issues Seminar will have Roger Perry of Washington University as its “facilitator” (the person who leads the group through the seminar’s format). Dr. Perry has worked with the St. Louis Public Schools as a seminar facilitator and has a great deal of experience in consulting schools and workwith citizens.

The neighborhood seminars will be held at Grace and Peace Fellowship (6003 Kingsbury). The dates are three Mondays: Oct. 24, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. The seminars are sponsored by the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council. The first meeting, Oct. 24, will be a reception for the faculties of the Hamilton, Hamilton Branch 3, “Neighborhood,” and St. Roch’s Schools, followed by a more detailed presentation of the seminar’s goals and methods. The group will then begin to focus on education in Skinker-DeBaliviere.

All of the residents of the SkinkerDeBaliviere are — including non-parents and parents of children who are no longer in school — are urged to attend. While the seminar has great potential, it can only be a success with your participation and enthusiasm!
