Des Peres Library

February 1977

From The Times Archives

Des Peres Branch Library will have something for folks of all ages during the month of February.

Two services for adults will be available. Free income tax preparation service by graduate students from the Business School at University of Missouri at St. Louis will be given in the branch again; we have not yet been told when the students will be here, but the service will begin in mid-February and last til April 15; please call the branch for times: 726- 2653. We will have voter registration again on February 5,9-1 and 2-5 o’clock.

A touch of spring will come on February 8 at 4 p.m. when we will present a demonstration of how to plant a terrarium, by Cindy Ruggeri, children’s librarian from Carondelet Branch Library. The project is mainly for children, but others are welcome too. Afterward, the terrarium, which will be in a 10-gallon aquarium, will be in the library for everyone’s enjoyment.

A film series and exhibits will honor Negro History Month during February. On Tuesday afternoons at 4 p.m., we will be showing a noted series called “Of Black America,” including the Black contribution to the military and to music, and the Black person’s search for his own history. On Tuesday, February 3, at 4 p.m., we will show the film “Negro Kingdom of Africa’s Golden Age,” which describes the high civilizations in Africa during the tenth fifteenth centuries. All are color films, and will last about an hour. Teens and adults will enjoy them.

We have been featuring art work from nearby schools during this school year, and St. Roch’s children’s work will be displayed this month.

An idea for folks who sew: would you like to have a free pattern exchange at the Branch? Just bring any complete patterns you are finished with, and we’ll put them in a box, and others can choose any they’d like to take. It’s working at several other branches, so why not at Des Peres?
