The Skinker DeBaliviere Cookie Exchange Party
For 50 years a group of ladies gathered at Jan Bierman’s for the annual Christmas Cookie Party. The objective was simple: bake 10 to 14 dozen cookies, no chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies, no holiday bread and no candy. Scouring cookbooks and newspapers for new and exciting recipes became a challenge as the years went by.
The party was an evening of fellowship, tasting everyone’s cookies, sharing recipes and drinking a “little” wine. In 1975 we were “young.” Over the years we celebrated marriages, births of children and grandchildren and sadly the deaths of four of our original members: Barb Schmidt, Gee Stuart, Georgie Fox and Delores Hoefel.
As the 50th year approached, we decided it was a good time for closure and now we hope instead to gather for lunch during the summer. Early December will be a little different this year, but the memories will last a lifetime.
