Although summer has yet to officially come to a close, we are beginning to see ads for back-to-school sales that remind us that fall is right around the corner along with more structure and less daylight. While we are squeezing the last summer activities — gardening, swimming and evening walks, we do have a lot to look forward to with changing colors and cooler weather.
Rags to Riches, a neighborhood wide yard sale, just took place on Saturday August 29 and Porchfest, the neighborhood’s largest event with local bands playing on host’s porches, will take place throughout the neighborhood on September 20.
In addition to the weather and the flora changing, this is a time when our neighborhood also undergoes quite a transformation. We will soon be welcoming a new group of students who will begin university in the fall.
The Rags to Riches and Porchfest activities are perfect opportunities to get out and meet our new neighbors. Feel free to introduce yourself to new people in the neighborhood and make them feel welcome in one of the best areas in the city. I also encourage anyone who has the time to volunteer at one of these events and engage with community. This is the opportunity to make lifelong friends and continue our tradition of diversity, progress and history.
