Despite a drop in temperature and a spattering of snow, several neighbors came out to celebrate and reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King, one of America’s great heroes and civil rights leaders.

This year’s honorees were the founding organizations of the Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council: Grace and Peace Fellowship Church, Grace United Methodist Church, New Cote Brilliante Church of God, St. Roch Parish and Washington University.

After being presented with City of St. Louis Resolutions acknowledging their work in the community, each organizational representative discussed the history of inclusion and collaboration that has made the Council special to them. New Executive Director, Brandon Sterling challenged the audience to find their “own inner MLK” and to continually look for ways to advocate for and help those in need.

The event was held at New Cote Brilliante and organized by Liz Johnson, Alice Stanley, Gwen LaZard, Arline Webb and Rita Mauchenheimer.
