Historical September–October 2016 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

A warm and friendly Dr. Mark Gilligan is now the principal at St. Roch. Dr. Gilligan is a native of St. Louis and his degrees come from St. Louis University with an extra master’s from Webster.

He had been a principal at a Catholic school in Ste. Genevieve but wanted to return to the city because of his mother’s failing health.

He and his wife now reside with his mother in St. Louis Hills.

They have 4 grown children, several of whom are pursuing careers in education. Gilligan’s father was born and raised in Ireland.

They have 3 dogs.

After a stint in a family-related business, Dr. Gilligan has spent 24 years in Catholic education.

He was interested in the St. Roch position because the school is noted for its academic excellence and its diversity.

He wants to get to know the culture by learning and observing.

They have hired a fulltime learning consultant who will work with individuals to help their achievement. Dr. Gilligan is impressed with what he has found at St. Roch.

The faculty is very dedicated and parental involvement is outstanding.

The preschool has been expanded and he feels things are headed in a good direction.

The school has always had a rigorous curriculum.

The learning consultant will develop instructional techniques for individuals.

The use of technology in the upper grades will be examined.

Finally, professional development will be addressed.

The National Catholic Educators Association’s annual conference will be in St. Louis this year and will provide ample opportunities.

The faculty is eager to be engaged in professional development.

Also at St. Roch, all are invited to the 2016 St. Roch Golf Classic and Dinner on Sunday, September 18, beginning at noon.

The funds raised help with equipment replacement, school athletics and fund enrichment programs for learning at St. Roch. For more information, contact Dr. Gilligan at 721-6340 or Lenny Knese at lknese@live.com.

We wish Dr. Gilligan well and hope to see him in the neighborhood.
