The traffic barrier posts behind the playground at Greg Freeman Park were revitalized on April 4th with the help of the St. Roch Troop 2637, 5th grade, led by Molly Rater.
The SD Beautification Committee sanded, primed, and repainted the posts, then cut new stencils similar to the original designs.
The stencils are a colorful collection of birds, frogs, butterflies, skinks, lizards, snails, and even a few grasshoppers.
When the posts were originally installed, just after the construction of the playground, the beautification committee designed and cut stencils and recruited the St. Roch Girl Scout troop #3528 for the original decorations. Through the years, rust and weather had taken a toll on the posts and the artwork as well.
This year we used a new kind of marine quality paint for the basecoat. Thanks to the charming choices of color and the handiwork of the Girl Scouts our playground posts are beautiful once again.–Andy Cross
