Editor’s Notes — Our Six Mile Comfort Zone

By Linda Cross

Historical Summer 2024 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

I am constantly harping on and on about how wonderful our neighborhood is as if it is some time of Utopia. Clearly no place is perfect, and it takes constant commitment and engagement to keep it as wonderful as possible.

I do feel, though, that another part of our great neighborhood is not just what is in it, but what is surrounding it. How lucky are we?

I jokingly tell my friends and co-workers that I have a six-mile comfort zone and everything that I need is right here. New exhibits at the Missouri History Museum are the revamped and reopened World’s Fair Exhibit, and the brand-new LGBTQ+ exhibit.

The St. Louis Art Museum has current exhibits of Expressionist Paintings and Native American Art of the 20th Century.

The St. Louis Zoo is hosting HullabaZoo themed days on Thursdays with specialty food and drinks, or the upcoming fancy Zoofari.

The St. Louis Science Center has first Fridays, laser light shows, public telescope viewings, and other events. Shakespeare in the Park is up and running with their comedy As You Like It for the 2024 offering (with a fabulous set if I might add).

The Muny is ramping up for their summer line up of Les Mis, Dreamgirls, The Little Mermaid, Fiddler on the Roof, Waitress, In the Heights, and Anything Goes.

The Delmar Loop has dozens of great eateries, entertainment, cocktails, as well as just finishing up the 1st Annual Loop Mural Festival and the Juneteenth Celebration.

This is not even to mention any upcoming outdoor concerts and the Porchfest that will be happening in the fall.

When I get overwhelmed with commitments, meetings, politics, and obligations, I remember all the great things that I can do within walking distance of my own door.

We are indeed lucky.
