Pride Month

By Emily Cross

Historical Summer 2023 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

This month, June, is Gay Pride Month!

As an asexual, I am excited to celebrate this time of awareness, celebration, and support of my community. Growing up ace was confusing: it’s not an orientation most people know about.

It definitely wasn’t included in any school curriculum, so I wasn’t aware that there were other people like me until well into high school. Even then, I had been brought up in the Catholic school system, where gender identity and orientation are not addressed. I’m forever grateful to the internet for teaching me that, not only is there a word for how I feel, but there are many, many other people who feel the same way I do! (Approximately the population of Denmark, if reported percentages are to be believed.) Fortunately, I have a very supportive family, who just want me to be happy; whether that means I end up with a boy, a girl, or neither. I’m very grateful to have always felt supported and safe in this neighborhood, and I hope that this article will help someone else feel supported and safe, as well. Happy Pride Month!!
