In 1908, the first houses arose in Skinker DeBaliviere and construction continued for more than a decade.

In 1911, just 3 years after the first residents arrived, a Catholic parish was formed.

While Father George P. Kuhlman worked with the new parishioners to raise money to build first the school, then the church, the new parishioners met elsewhere in the neighborhood, including 6008 Kingsbury (home of SDCC today). Recently, Msgr. Sal Polizzi assembled a group of parishioners and friends to plan the centenary celebration.

There will be a mass at St. Roch on Sunday, September 25 at 4:30pm.

There will be a dinner at the Chase following the mass. Archbishop Carlton will be in attendance at these events.

Following is a list of committees and chairs for the event. • Co-chairs: Jim and Karen Shaughnessy, Don and Betty Moore • Coordinator: Bridget O’Flynn • New history of the parish: Larry Murray • Art work (banners and logo): Bill Christman and Andy Cross • Assembling photographs across a century: Arline Webb with Jane Hart, Jim McCarthy, Bob Newsham, and Claire Walsh • Contribution of social Catholics: Lana Stein and JoAnn Vatcha (Social Catholics are non-Catholics who have been active in the school and with the church in the neighborhood. • Mailings: Kyle McEvoy • Outreach to school alumni and the March 5 Centennial Auction: Gloria Openlander • Women of St. Roch: Beth Hogan • Boy Scouts: Rick Bender • For the dinner at the Chase: Chair: Mark Cusamano • Music: Mary Davidson • Decoration of Tables: Georgi Fox The Times will bring you more information as the event draws nearer.

In another point of interest, Msgr. Polizzi is celebrating his 30th year at St. Roch this year.
