Yarn Again

April–May 2008

Historical April–May 2008 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Everybody who remembers the former sewing shop on Delmar raise your hand.

My mother was to give me the name but as of this date has not been able to remember it (nor have her past & current neighbors Claire Walsh & Jean Eberle). Anyway, we have somewhat of a repeat performance with the opening of Knitty Couture, an establishment who’s opening was heralded by folks camping out of the front door for the grand opening! Camping out for an opening is just one factor showing the rise in popularity of knitting.

The store has even had a 5-year-old come in for materials so he could join his siblings in the craft.

To help meet this demand is Knitty Couture, which stocks not only yarn (specializing in small & local suppliers) but knitting supplies, books, needles, and accessories.

They also have classes and spinning demonstrations (with spinning supplies and equipment).

In the future they hope to organize trips to visit different farms when yarn is harvested.

The store has set out to be a community and social venue, which is apparent as soon as you walk in the door.

The store develops the social aspect of knitting with patrons working and helping each other in a comfortable work area, filling one of the store’s missions of being a community venue.

The other missions the owner has is to support small yarn producers and to become a foundation for community programs. Additional information and store reviews are available at www. knittycouture.com; 6148 Delmar, 727-6500. Open Tuesday through Sunday till 6; Thursday until 8.
