The Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council Board of Directors has chosen a new executive director for the Council.

She is Darcell Braylock and she started work at the time of the Garden Tour.

She has now seen half the neighborhood without power for a good week and the hottest National Night Out ever.

Her resilience and good humor have seen her through these events and hopefully many happy neighborhood occasions. Darcell, a native St. Louisan, is a graduate of Vashon High.

She first ventured to San Francisco to complete her education.

She studied at the San Francisco Art Institute for three years.

She specialized in painting and drawing.

She returned to St. Louis and St. Louis University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Studies.

Her emphasis was communication and humanities.

She has also received two Master’s degrees from Webster University in Management and in Human Resources.

Her recent work experience includes stints at the YWCA as a project manager and at Bank of America where she was a facilities coordinator.

When the SDCC opening was posted, Darcell was planning to move to Atlanta.

A friend saw the posting and told her this job was made for her.

The rest is history and Atlanta’s loss is our gain.

The SDCC job actually draws on a lot of her interests including the arts and commercial and residential management.

In addition, she is well acquainted with the politics of the city. Darcell wants to improve relationships and communication in the neighborhood and have all committees and entities working together.

She says our neighborhood is like a collage, a mixture of everything and that is unusual for St. Louis.

It reminds her of a little New York melting pot.

She wants to be part of the growth and development here. Skinker DeBaliviere is what St. Louis should be.
